Backing up over a LAN Network

Backing up over a LAN Network

Backing up over a LAN network is accomplished in the following way

1) add an SD to your Bacula4 GUI user account
2) while adding the SD, ensure you add a WAN IP and LAN IP to the wizard (if no LAN IP is assigned, the SD will automatically only backup over the WAN.  ONCE A LAN IP IS ADDED, THE SD IS USED TO BACKUP OVER THE LAN ONLY)
3) when adding a Server or VM via the wizard, ensure you add a LAN IP to the server (once done, the server will automatically backup over the LAN) - PLEASE ENSURE A WAN IP IS ADDED TO ALL SERVERS/VMs BEING BACKED UP IN THE WAN IP FIELD, AND THE LAN IP IS ADDED TO THE LAN IP FIELD - A WAN IP CAN BE ACHIEVED VIA NAT AND PORT FORWARDING AT YOUR FIREWALL BY SELECTING THE NAT OPTION)
4) in the add Server/VM wizard, ensure you select an SD that is LAN enabled (as per above) and the LAN network is routable between the Server/VM you are backing up and the LAN based SD
5) ensure all firewall rules are set on the SD and Server/VM to allow the communication

Once a Server/VM is backing up over the LAN, all backups and restores will automatically be processed over the LAN
